A Year in Focus
2024 Highlights from Your DC Family Photographer
As the year comes to a close, I’m feeling incredibly grateful for all the families and moments I’ve had the privilege to document this year. 2024 has been full of growth, creativity, and connection, and I’m excited to share some highlights with you all.
January: A Solo Start to the Year
I kicked off 2024 with my annual bizcation—a few days of solo time to reflect, plan, and set intentions for the year ahead. It’s always so satisfying to have uninterrupted time to dream big and map out my goals.
February: A Personal Milestone
This February marked a huge moment in my personal life: I became an American citizen! It’s a milestone that made this year more special.
March: Adventures by Train
In March, I embarked on a memorable train trip to Montreal with my kids for Spring break. Traveling by train gave us time to connect and soak in the journey. (Stay tuned for a full blog post about this adventure coming soon!)
Spring: New Collaborations and Growth
Spring was a time of growth for my business. I hired an associate photographer, Svitlana, who is available for weekend sessions. She’s incredibly talented, and I’m thrilled to have her on the team.
In May, I attended a photo conference in Oregon, where I spent a full weekend with photographer friends on the beautiful coast. It was inspiring and energizing—exactly the boost I needed before heading into the busy season.
Summer: Work and Play in France
In July and August, I spent the summer working from France and taking time off to enjoy life and reconnect with family. This balance is something I’ve come to deeply value. Those months were quieter for sessions—just two!—but they were filled with rejuvenation and creative flows.
Fall: The Busiest Season Yet
Fall is always a bustling time for a DC family photographer, and this year was no exception. An incredible 53% of my sessions happened during this season, with October being the busiest month of all (23 sessions in total!). That being said, it is always a pleasure to reconnect with families I have photographed before or new ones.
CREATIVE HIGHLIGHTS
This year brought some exciting opportunities to share my art:
I had my own exhibition in the smallest gallery in the DMV, located in Hyattsville with my “People of Hyattsville” work.
I had photos featured in two collective exhibitions with Shop Made in DC.
I sold art prints—a first for me! I would like to have a print shop but it’s been a project for the past few years so maybe it will happen next year…?
My work was published in the online magazine Heartful in the Spring 2024 issue (download here).
BUSINESS GROWTH AND CHALLENGE
2024 was a year of growth for my business. I worked with more families than in 2023, and 75% of my clients were returning families or members of the Photo-fetti Club—a testament to the relationships we’ve built together.
With growth came challenges. Early in the year, I had to switch bookkeepers. While the transition was stressful with the first one, I ultimately found a fantastic professional, Kirsti Dory, who fixed everything and gave me peace of mind. Slowing Down for the Holidays
This year, I made the intentional decision to stop shooting after Thanksgiving. Instead, I focused on tying up loose ends, ordering products, and designing albums for my amazing clients. This shift allowed me to enjoy December—spending quality time with family, visiting craft markets, and soaking up all the festive activities around DC.
