slowing down: a love letter to photography and life • Family photographer in the dmv
What makes you different is what makes you extraordinary.
We are January the 24th and this is a scary time for so many reasons.
I recently returned from a solo trip to Paris, where I took some much-needed quality time for myself. I immersed in art exhibits, caught up with friends, and wandered the streets with my camera in hand—mostly shooting on film! The experience slowed me down, forcing me to notice things differently and anticipate moments in a way that is different than with a digital camera.
I haven’t sent my rolls to the lab yet, but I’m hoping at least 1 photo turns out! I used a toy camera (Lomo Diana Mini) that takes square pictures and allows for double exposures. My goal wasn’t perfection—it was simply to have fun, let go of control, and enjoy the process without grand expectations.
In a world that feels increasingly heavy, I find myself craving more fun and more beauty. I need proof and reminders of the laughter, the walks we took, the meals we cooked and shared, the milestones and traditions we celebrated, and even the quiet, ordinary moments.
It reminds me of the photographs I took to document 2020, a year that forced us to find joy and connection in the midst of chaos.
When the world feels overwhelming, noticing the beauty in the ordinary becomes an act of resilience.
Photography is my love language, helping me process the world around me. And when the sh** hits the fan, it takes extra effort to notice and appreciate the good—but it’s always worth it.
By appreciating the mundane, we reclaim our sense of presence and find magic where we least expect it.
I want to bring joy to others through photos because it’s what I do best and what I love most. I see beauty in diversity, in different body shapes, in light and shadows, the unnoticed and mundane, and I want to celebrate all of it—while having some fun along the way.
If you're considering a photoshoot, I just want you to know that JFP is a safe space to be yourself in all your beautiful, quirky, and unique forms—free from judgment and expectations.
You will be celebrated for what makes you, you. So bring your weirdest personalities, your best dance moves, and your boldest ideas. I’m here for all of it.
What a boring world it would be if we were all the same.
My camera is ready to capture your story, just as you are.
Take care of yourself, today and always, friend.
